Notice to ex-minister, inspector in abduction
Chennai, Jan. 28: The Madras High Court on Friday issued notices to the Coimbatore CB-CID inspector, former DMK minister N.K.K.P. Raja and six others on a petition challenging the acquittal of Raja in an abduction and murder attempt over a property dispute. Justice K.N. Basha adjourned further hearing of the petition filed by the complainant P. Sivabalan. Raja was accused of abducting Sivabalan in 2008 and attempting to grab his property. The former minister was also charged with threatening to gun down Sivabalan he went to his house. After a criminal case was registered against him, Raja was dropped from the Cabinet in 2009. The Erode Judicial Magistrate-III acquitted Raja of all charges on September 21, 2010. Sivabalan filed a petition contending that the order acquitting all the accused was delivered in a hasty manner and on flimsy grounds. The lower court erred in concluding that it was Sivabalans fault for going to Rajas house where he was allegedly threatened with a gun. Even assuming that he went to Rajas residence, that did not give the former minister licence to threaten.
