Man held for setting friend on fire for money
New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his friend after robbing him, police said today.
Ram Badan Yadav and his friend Irfan allegedly stranged Amit, a contractor, in Bawana on January 9 and later set the body afire.
"Yadav was arrested after he confessed to the murder while Irfan is absconding," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.
"Yadav, who was Amit's friend, was in need of money. Amit had invited the duo for a drink and they saw that hehad large amount of cash with him. The duo planned to rob him. They consumed liquor together and intentionally offered more drinks to Amit. Later, they took him to a secluded place and after assaulting him, robbed him of his money," Sharma said.
When Amit threatened to lodge a police complaint against them, they allegedly strangled him with their handkerchiefs and set the body afire.
