Jan. 19: The Chennai city police arrested a doctor for allegedly misbehaving with a 24-year-old housewife in Villivakkam on Wednesday. The womans husband was also arrested for cheating the woman by marrying her while concealing the fact that he was already married.According to the police, Rani (name changed), member of a woman self-help group and resident of SIDCO Nagar in Villivakkam, married Babu, 40, of Puthur in Ambattur at a mass marriage organised by a businessman on January 2, 2010. Babu worked as a delivery man at a gas agency in Villivakkam.Babu told Rani that she had a sexual problem and took her to Arjun, 48, of Padi, claiming that he was a doctor and could cure her. Arjun misbehaved with Rani on the pretext of conducting an examination, a police officer said. When Rani complained to her husband, he asked her to cooperate with Arjun. Rani informed her father Ramar about the incident and Ramar lodged a complaint with us.Investigations revealed that Babu had already been married and had two children with his first wife who lives in Thirumullaivoyal. Arjun was not a doctor but a school dropout. We arrested Arjun for misbehaving with the woman and took Babu into custody for cheating Rani, the officer added.A spokesperson from the office of the businessman who organised the marriage said proper checks hade been made on the background of individuals before they were selected for the mass marriage. Officials of the family welfare department were not available for comment. The Villivakkam all-woman police is investigating the case.
