All FIRs on Delhi Police website from today

Delhi: Policemen in Delhi denying anyone a copy of First Information Reports (FIRs) will soon be a thing of the past. From February 1, people can download new FIRs registered in the Capital from Delhi Police's official website - www.delhipolice.nic.in. An accused can get a copy from the police station by paying Rs 25. The move comes following a direction by the Delhi High Court on December 6 last year when it said that an accused is entitled to get a copy of the FIR within 24 hours of its registration and police cannot deny supplying it. The court had said that the FIRs should be uploaded online within 24 hours of its registration though it exempted the force from making public FIRs on sensitive issues. However, whenever it does not make FIRs public, such a decision has to be taken by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police and they have to inform the area magistrates. "We will be uploading the FIRs from February o...

Raj Thackeray travels by suburban train

Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Monday travelled on a suburban local train, reminding the people of a similar journey by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi last year. Raj travelled from suburban Dombivali to Dadar in central Mumbai (where he lives) on the train and blamed increasing number of "outsiders" for the rush. The MNS chief said he was not aping Rahul Gandhi. The Dombivali-Dadar road was very bad, and people prefer trains, he said. "This is not the first time I am travelling by train. I used to take trains during my college days some 25 years ago," Raj told reporters. "But now the crowd is increasing like anything, and the outsiders coming to the city are responsible for this burden on the infrastructure," he said. Raj was in Dombivali to meet the party corporators who got elected in the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation elections three months ago. Rahul Gandhi had take...

Not only Yamuna, Surakshit, her agent, never allowed clients a second time even with his other girls. Surakshit regularly 'updated' his client list, and even had contacts with call girls from other cities such as Mumbai and Delhi. Since he knew that this was a risky business, Surakshit took extreme precautions. Another one of his 'failsafes' was that he operated only during weekdays. Pre-dinner junk food makes city children unhealthiest

Vellore, Jan. 22: Chennai kids are now officially the unhealthiest in the country-a recent study by research firm AC Nielsen has found that 93 per cent of children here indulge in pre-dinner snacking. Children in the other metros were found to snack on healthier traditional eatables like uttappa and poha, with Mumbais kids choosing soup as their favorite pre-dinner snack. However, evening tiffin for children in the city, has moved from sundal and idlis to processed and deep fried junk food, complain doctors. This trend is all the more alarming considering that Chennai kids are regarded as the most obese in the country.Packaged ready-to-eat snacks may fill the childs stomach, but only with empty calories. They are full of fat and carbohydrates, but do not contain vitamins, minerals or fibre, says Mrs Meenakshi Bajaj, medical nutrition therapist at the government general Hospital.Unhealthy snacking in children who are not active enough to work off the extra calories, could lead to ...

Coimbatore district seems to be the most affected, with a meager 74.3 per cent babies receiving the measles vaccine. But there are still no Anganwadis where under the Integrated Child development Scheme (ICDS), children can be given supplementary food and their health can be monitored. "For the last three years we have been trying to get an Anganwadi for our slum... we forwarded an RTI application... but without any luck we are still struggling," said Seema Singh, a social worker from the area. The ICDS mandates one Anganwdi for a population of a 1000, but here there are 7000 people fighting, long and hard for just one centre to open. Fissures develop in TDs T forum on separate unit

Hyderabad, Jan. 21: Cracks have developed in the Telangana Telugu Desam Forum, with party MLA, Mr M. Narasimhulu, firing a salvo at forum convenor, Mr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, and rejecting his demand for a separate unit of the party in Telangana.Where is the need for a separate unit? Some people are daydreaming of becoming Chief Minister even before Telangana is carved out. Its unfortunate that these people are hankering for power, Mr Narsimhulu remarked caustically.Mr Narsimhulu is the second leader in the party after Mr A. Revanth Reddy to openly oppose the formation of a separate unit in Telangana even before a new state is formed. It is an unnecessary demand. Let Telangana be formed, the party unit will automatically come about. Some seniors are blackmailing Mr Chandrababu Naidu, he charged. In an indirect reference to Mr Janardhan Reddy, he said this sort of quest for power was not good for the party. Wrong number calls haunt elderly couple

Pune: For the past year, 76-year-old Padmakar Darp and his 71-year-old wife Lalita Darp have been patiently answering about twenty calls a day about Deccan Education Society Law College on their landline. College authorities are clueless about the goof-up and have not bothered to change their contact details online. All the calls meant for DES college come on Darp's personal landline number. Ironically, Darp was a student of the same college about fifty years ago. His personal landline number is mentioned on the website along with the college address.
