Police asked to provide security in courts

Hyderabad, Feb. 2: A division bench comprising Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas V. Afzulpurkar of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the state government, all Bar Associations in the state and the police to strictly adhere to the orders of the Supreme Court and the High Court for smoother functioning of the courts in the state.The Bench was dealing with a motion moved by one Mr Syed Yasar Mamoon seeking a direction to provide security for smoother functioning of the courts and to take steps to allow advocates and parties to enter the courts without any hindrance.The petitioner told the court that at Ranga Reddy courts some advocates had threatened some parties and their advocates who wanted to enter the court premises on February 2. He also said that at most of the courts in Telangana, advocates were on relay hunger strikes. He brought to the notice of the court that there were not enough cops at the lower courts to protect the advocates and the parties.Census work must not affect studentsThe AP High Court on asked the state government not to cause inconvenience to the students while conducting Census in the state by involving the teachers in the work. The court disposed of a petition filed seeking a direction to postpone the date of conducting the Census from February 9 to March 5, 2011 to any other date after completion of the exams or the academic year 2011.Peoples Union Forum for Civic Action and Rights filed the petition stating that almost 90 per cent of teaching staff was deployed for the purpose of Census. He told the court that the period in which the work has been assigned to the staff was very crucial for the student as they are at the verge of completing their year and they require more attention of the teachers to get better results. The bench while disposing of the petition directed that the state government will take precautions with regard to students interest. They have to adjust their work in such manner to attend Census wo! rk as we ll as school work. If they dont do that the petitioner has liberty to come back to court again, the bench observed.Lawyers to meet CJI on HC judgeThe High Court Advocates Association, on Wednesday resolved to meet the Chief Justice of India and convey its concern in not recommending the names of any advocate for the post of judge of High Court in the recent past. The general body meeting of the association declared that it is unfortunate that names of advocates are not being recommended for the post of judge of High Court. It was decided that another meeting will be held to discuss threadbare the behaviour of the bench in greater detail with reference to specific courts.Most of the advocates who spoke during the meeting expressed their resentment on the attitude of some of the judges towards the bar. One of the advocates recalled how the bar fought valiantly against the then Chief Justice Prabhasankar Mishra and asked the advocates to unite for justice overcoming the regional and other sectarian feelings.
